Play Metis is a game studio. We make games for people who like to think.
Why Metis
In Greek myth, Metis is the goddess of wisdom and cunning. We chose the name because it says what we want our games to reward: reading the situation and making your own call.
Our first project
Our first project is an online game of cờ úp, the Vietnamese face-down variant of xiangqi. The board is familiar, but most pieces start the game face down, so nobody can memorise the opening. You guess what is hidden, weigh the risk and commit before you know everything. The full rules are in Cờ úp: when you do not know which piece you are holding.
The game is in development and is coming to iOS and Android. Its title and release date will be announced later.
What we care about
- Easy to learn, hard to master. A newcomer should understand the rules in minutes, and a veteran should still have more to discover.
- Respect for the original. We keep the rules that make a game good instead of reinventing it.
- Care in the details. A game you remember lives in its small moments.
